Alimikhena Makes Brief Appearance At Uneme Coronation - incurs wrath of the people
By Dada Ayokhai
The brisk appearance and sudden departure of Senator Francis Alimikhena during the coronation ceremony of the newly installed traditional ruler of Uneme autonomous community, has set tongues wagging about the Senator's true intentions, with many describing it as an act of arrogance and disrespect.
Many Uzanus at the staff presentation ceremony out rightly condemned the brisk appearance of Senator Alimikhena, noting that if he (Alimikhena) had any modicum of respect for royalty and the people whom he claims to represent, he would certainly had stayed to partake actively in the events of the day.
According to some of those who expressed dismay about the Senator's act of indiscretion, the fact that the ceremony took place in his neighbouring clan and which also formed a part of his political ward, clearly imposed a burden of responsibility on him.
Consequently, leaders of thought in South Uneme have interpreted Senator Alimikhena's behaviour at the ceremony as something that was invariably dictated by the need for votes rather than his love for the community.
The coronation ceremony was celebrated by Unemes across the three council areas in Edo North as well as those in the Diaspora.
Senator Alimikhena's behaviour was roundly condemned as unbecoming of his status.
Others however postulated that the senator acted the way he did because he was unhappy with the creation of South Uneme clan with Uzanu as an integral part. This is probably why a large section of the people feels outraged with those they considered as the 'cabal' who vehemently worked against the creation of the new clan.
Among the prominent Uzanus who graced the ceremony included a former commissioner, Mr Clem Agba; the famed Akus brothers led by Jibril Aku, former MD of Ecobank and Mr Kenneth Aku, his brother.
Edo North PDP hopeful, Hon Abubakar Momoh, demonstrated his love for the Unemes by participating fully in the event from beginning to end.
South East Uneme clan was created out of south Uneme clan by former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, in the twilight of his tenure.
The newly created clan was an integral part of south Uneme clan under the domain of Oliola Ugbodaga.
Before then South East Uneme clan was under and gazetted as an integral part of the South Uneme clan whose major land size was carved in Etsako Central local government area. But the land area of South Uneme clan was in Etsako East LGA. This was done for administrative convenience.
The Igiode village an integral part of Wanno where senator Alimikhena hails from claimed that part of the land ceded to the newly clan was theirs hence took the Edo state government and the South East Uneme to court.
