The Muslim World Celebrates Eid-el-Kabir
By Michael Innocent
The entire Muslims around the world celebrated the Islamic festival of Eid-el-Kabir today, which is famously known for the slaughtering of rams by Muslims who could afford it, in accordance with Islamic injunction.
The day starts with Muslims trooping to eid praying ground nearest to them for a Congregational two-rakat prayer.
The prayer is usually attended by the entire household comprising father, mother and the children, who wear new attires sewn specifically for the Sallah celebration.
At the end of the prayer, the Muslim faithful would wait behind to witness the Imam who led them in the prayer to slaughter the ram brought to the praying ground, after which they depart to their various houses to also perform the function of slaughtering their rams.
Agbelonews correspondents in Abuja, Lagos and other places reported peaceful observance of the prayers with the people thanking the Almighty Allah for sparing their lives to witness the very important festival in the Islamic calendar.
Some of the people our correspondents spoke with, said they prayed for themselves, members of their household and the country as a whole, especially in the area of peace.
"This period is to give all thanks to Almighty Allah," one of them said, urging "Nigerians to be at peace with themselves."
The Sallah celebration continues as Monday and Tuesday had been declared public holidays to enable Muslim faithful visit and exchange gifts with each other, their neighbours of other religious faiths as well as feed the needy as enjoined by the Holy Qur'an.
One interesting aspect of this festival is that Muslims will have no respite from friends and office colleagues in the next fortnight as "Where is my Sallah meat?" will become the most asked question the world over in that period.
