Hon. Benedicta Ebuehi Re-enforces Security At Okpella, Bode Against Interstate Travels

Further steps to ensure strict compliance with the federal government's directive against interstate movements have been taken by the Executive Chairman of Etsako East local government area, Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi.

She met with stakeholders including the Police, Civil Defence, Vigilante outfits in Okpella and Agenebode, the Etsako East border towns with Kogi state earlier today and directed them to be more vigilant and ensure that persons travelling from other states do not enter Edo state through the Okene (Kogi state) - Okpella (Edo state) highway and across the River Niger in Agenebode under any guise in defiance of the federal government directive against such interstate movements as part of efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus pandemic across the nation.

It would be recalled that few days ago a trailer purportedly conveying animals was apprehended at Ekpoma and found to contain people hidind among the animals.

The Executive Chairman told the security agencies to be fully alert and ensure that vehicles coming into Edo state through the Okene-Okpella highway and Agenebode waterways are thoroughly searched to ensure that people as against consumable goods approved by the government are not transported into the state.

"As you know, the fight to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, which is the reason the federal government banned interstate movement of people, except the drivers and their motor boys conveying essential food and pharmaceutical items," Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi said at the meeting with stakeholders at Okpella.

"I am therefore, appealing to you to step up your work in checkmating recalcintrant people who are hellbent on flouting the federal government's directive against interstate movement for now.

"This order is still subsisting and it is therefore our onerous duty to enforce compliance with the restriction of interstate movement and ensure that the people of Etsako East local government area are not unduly exposed to the dangers posed by such illegal movements and the COVID-19 pandemic."
