The Executive Chairman of Etsako East local government area, Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi, has congratulated the Muslim Community Worldwide on the observance of Eid-el-Kabir prayers.

In her message, she enjoined Muslims not to let the social aspect of the festivity to overshadow the central theme of the annual ritual of sacrificing rams, cows and other approved animals.

The two-rakat prayers of Id adhan, also known as the Muslim Festival of Sacrifice is to commemorate Allah's instruction to Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, to Him. At the point of carrying out Allah's directive, a ram was instead provided by Allah for Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice instead of his son.

Hon. (Mrs) noted in her message that "Obedience, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, is better than sacrifice. Prophet Ibrahim's resolve to obey Allah's instruction ultimately saved his son, Ismail"

The Executive Chairman therefore, advised the populace to always obey laws enacted by constituted authorities for orderliness in our immediate environments and the world at large.

"No sacrifice is too much for us to make if we must create a better society for ourselves, our children, and generations yet unborn," the Etsako East council Boss stated.

"As we celebrate the Big Sallah, we must not throw caution to the wind and forget to continue to observe the guidelines put in place by the Federal Government to stem the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

"Wash your hands regularly, cough and sneeze into your elbow, use hand sanitizer, wear your face mask and observe social distancing always.

"It is also instructive to note that the ban on congregational prayers is still in place and adherence is utmost important for the health safety of all of us.

"Only those who stay healthy and alive can celebrate. Even as we pray for the good things of life, the PDP Edo State Government ably led by Governor Godwin Obaseki is working tirelessly to ensure that COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control and possibly eliminated in no distant future.

"Once again, I say Barka da Sallah as I enjoin you to stay safe."
