Supreme Court Upholds The Election Of Obaseki

The Nigeria apex court has upheld the
election of Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo state of Nigeria, in a unanimous
judgment delivered on Monday, July 10, 2017, in Abuja.
The seven-man panel of the supreme court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen held that Godwin Obaseki was validly elected the governor of Edo state and that the appeal filed by the defeated candidate of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacks merit and was therefore, dismissed.
TheNation newspaper reports that “The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the election
of Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo.
“The court dismissed appeal filed by Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the
candidate of the (Peoples) Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 governorship
election in the state.
“Ize-Iyamu had challenged the decision of the appeal court which affirmed
the position of Obaseki as governor.
“The Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen led seven other judges that
gave the judgement”
