Indian Women Allow 'God-men' Walk On Them In Hope Of Getting Pregnant

A woman's desperation for the fruit of the womb can make her go to ends of the world to seek solution to her affliction. A case in point is in India where women lay on the ground for "God-men" to walk on top of their backs, a ritual that is believed to make the women get pregnant.
It is an annual ritual that takes place in Andhra Pradesh, Southern India, during an annual festival of Ekadashi.
According to reports in Daily Mail newspaper, the women who are unable to have children visit the Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Temple, where they lay down on their stomachs in a straight roll waiting for the temple priests known as God-men to come and walk on top of their backs repeatedly.
Many believe that the practice which is a public show watched by a large crowd in the month of July each year, when the festival is celebrated is effective as some of the women who take part in it actually had babies afterwards.
"Tribal women in Andhra Pradesh, southern India, have performed this ritual for generations during the annual festival of Ekadashi, during the month of July.
"Women, who are unable to have children visit the Lakshmi Narasimha Swami temple, in Anantapur district," the Daily Mail reports.

"They lie down in a line on the ground and wait for a God-man to walk over their backs, as hundreds of locals look on.

Many claim the practice has worked and say it has fulfilled the wishes of countless women to become mothers.
Harilal Nayak, executive magistrate of Manaksira town, in Andhra Pradesh, said: ‘This ritual has been going on for generations.
'People hold a strong belief in this practice and numerous women take part thinking it works.
'People will continue to do it as long as the belief is there.
‘It’s clear being walked over by a God-man doesn’t make a woman pregnant but while they believe it does, they’ll do it.’
