Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi, Executive Chairman, Etsako East Council |
The Executive Chairman of Etsako East local government area, Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi, has flagged off immunization exercise in the council area.
In her address read by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sunny Peters, who represented her at the ceremony, Hon. Benedicta Ebuehi said the exercise, termed "State Immunization plus Days (SIPDs), had been necessitated by the "Low coverage of routine immunization in the state."
She commended both the Edo state and Federal governments for their commitments to ensuring that children are vaccinated against childhood diseases.
"I must say that the Government of Nigeria and partners are doing their best to ensure that all eligible children are vaccinated against childhood diseases," the Chairman said.
"To support my claim, the Federal Government just extended the routine immunization schedule from 0 - 11 months to 0 - 23 months and measles vaccines are now being administered twice to children, first at 9 months and secondly at 15 months."
Hon. Benedicta Ebuehi admonished parents and caregivers to make their children available to access the vaccines, adding that "The health workers have been trained and equipped for their job. They will be moving from house to house, stay at fixed post while the special team will be at every occasion/farm and stream roads.

"... I want to appreciate the Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, for his passion for the health of our children, donor Agencies and my humble self for putting everything in place to ensure that all our children are fully vaccinated against childhood killer diseases."
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the program, Mrs Elizabeth Amos in her speech, appealed to the women not only to ensure that their children were vaccinated, but that they should equally call out their neighbours to have their children vaccinated too whenever the health workers visit their areas during the vaccination exercise.
She educated them on the importance of the vaccination exercise which is to prevent their children from becoming disabled and not being able to walk properly again.
The flag off ceremony was graced by many dignitaries and top functionaries of the council area, amongst whom are Hon. Sunny Peters, Vice Chairman of the Council area; Hon. John Ogiadomhe, representative of Head of Local Administration, Agenebode; Mrs Mary Ikokoh, Acting Health Education Officer; and Comrade Ibrahim Abdulsalim, Supervisory Councillor for Works.
