The Executive Chairman of Etsako East local government area, Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi has appealed to the Edo state government to construct the road linking Okpella to Ivie and Agenebode.
She stated this while playing host to the Edo State Government Special Projects Media Tour team which paid a courtesy visit to her in her office.
While stressing the importance of the road, she told the team that they took the long route because the Okpella-Ivie-Agenebode road is not motorable.
"You see the way you came now, you came through two local government areas;...you came from Okpella through Etsako West, through Etsako Central before you got here," the Chairman explained.
"But there is a straight road that comes from Okpella. If that road is fixed, it won't take you more than 15 minutes to get here. But the road is not good.
"Sometimes you that is travelling with a vehicle, you will be on the way, somebody using okada from Okpella (through Ivie) will get here and you will still be on the road.
"...the road is not motorable. That is the road that connects the whole local government area, because we have three zones - Okpella zone, Ivie zone and Wanno zone where you have Agenebode.
"That road is very principal to us as a local government. This is just to remind him (Governor) about the road. It is not a road that the local government can handle."
Hon. Ebuehi said her administration was opening up more communities through grading of more roads especially now that the dry season is here.
"We are just trying now to grade more roads and open up more communities and since there is dry season now we have captured three roads in each Ward - and we have 10 Wards, that is 30 roads - at least to bring palliative measures to the people," she said.
"We were able to provide a transformer for the people of Awuyemi in Ward 5, Okpella, who had been without electricity for over a year. The light was switched on on December 24, before Christmas."
The Head of the tour team, Hon. Jack Obinyan, who is the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the Governor, had earlier briefed the Chairman about their tour of projects across the state covering key areas like education, health and others.
