The Executive Chairman of Etsako East local government area, Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi has called on the people to persevere and shun shortcuts to riches despite the economic challenges confronting every household and instead emulate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ who shunned every temptation of the devil.
She stated this in a Christmas message to the people of the local government to mark the Christmas celebration as well over a billion Christian faithful across the globe mark the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
"Jesus Christ represents everything good in the human race. Not even forty days and forty nights of fasting would make him fall for the tempting offers from the devil who challenged him to turn stones to loaves of bread to assuage his hunger ("Man does not live by bread alone": Matthew 4:4)," the highly spiritual number one citizen of Etsako East stated in her message.
"Jesus Christ is an embodiment of love for mankind. He never discriminated as he died on the Cross so that the human race could be saved from sins and all ungodly acts.
"We must therefore, make the extra effort to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ who teaches us that for us to enter the Kingdom of heaven, we must first "...become as little children..." (Matthew 18:3). Yet, today, child-trafficking, armed robbery, banditry, kidnapping, etc are thriving businesses in our world, where the crave for ostentatious living is spreading like harmattan wildfire."
Hon. (Mrs) Benedicta Ebuehi admonished Christians to see beyond the social glitz of Christmas especially in this period of coronavirus pandemic where we are expected to observe all the guidelines put in place by the various governments to control the spread of the deadly disease.
"Christmas goes beyond socialising, partying, eating and drinking. We must spare a thought for and reach out to the less privileged and needy in the society and put a smile on their faces," the selfless Etsako East Boss said further.
"While the downturn of the economy has further worsened our purchasing power, I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to every son and daughter of Etsako East to join hands with the government of the Council area irrespective of political affiliation and ethnic leaning to pray for peace in the local government.
"Please, accept my warm congratulations for being alive at this time as I wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ."
